Tips and ideas to set up a perfect sugared almond at your wedding

Tradition has it that, at the end of every self-respecting wedding, there is a properly set up corner where all the guests can taste the sugared almonds chosen for the occasion.

Whether it's a wedding, a baptism or another event, the confettata is part of the important celebrations in Italy and is considered a symbol of good luck for the celebrated.

But how to create a perfect corner, in line with the setting and the theme of the event? Which sugared almonds to choose to be sure to amaze your guests?

Here is a small guide that will certainly be useful if you are looking for the right inspiration.

Let's go for a walk through time to find out how the sugared almond is born

The sugared almond was born with the intention of offering a further moment of conviviality, shortly after the launch of the bouquet and the wedding cake.

In particular, this tradition was born in Sicily where at the end of the wedding sugared almonds were distributed to thank the guests for their presence.

As for the sugared almond, however, we have more "ancient" origins, to be exact at the time of the ancient Romans who used to distribute almond-filled candies and a flour and honey-based glaze during their banquets.

Indeed, this very simple sweet recalls the modern sugared almond which, to be precise, was born in France in the distant 1220 from the inspiration of a Verdun pharmacist who decided to cover the almonds with sugar and honey to facilitate their transport and improve their appearance, making them smooth and homogeneous.

Today it is customary for sugared almonds to contain round sugared almonds with an ever-changing filling, on the contrary in the 80s and 90s everything was simpler: almond or chocolate sugared almonds covered with candied sugar.

Tips and ideas for a perfect confettata

Having abandoned the silver tray and table-by-table distribution, today the style with which to set up the corner of the sugared almond is usually chosen based on the theme of the wedding (or event).

There are two aspects to evaluate: the preparation and the tastes of the sugared almonds.

Let's start with the first, that is with setting up the table and choosing the containers. Usually when the event takes place on a spring or summer day it is customary to prefer outdoor areas, on the contrary during the coldest period.

In general, the sugared almond table is always positioned close to the favors table.

If the theme of your wedding recalls rustic and past settings, you could choose something alternative as containers, perhaps in tin or copper; a more classic style instead wants glass and crystal containers (for example backsplashes, cups or containers for sweets) perhaps decorated with fabric ribbons.

Here are some ideas that will undoubtedly be useful for you to make a decision:

  • if the theme of your wedding recalls a specific region, choose a typical element of that tradition;
  • if the theme recalls the green and eco-sustainable world, focus on containers made with recycled materials;
  • when the theme recalls a particular environment, such as the sea or the mountains, it is preferable to use containers such as shells or details of small chalets.

The tablecloth that covers the table must be different from those used for lunch/dinner and to give movement we recommend using containers with different heights.

Even the choice of sugared almonds, in particular the color, is linked to the general theme in fact:

  • a classic theme wants all-white sugared almonds;
  • a modern and informal theme allows you to choose sugared almonds in different colours, as long as they are coordinated with the color of the decorations.

It remains to decide where to buy the confetti. You can delegate this choice to your wedding planner if you have hired one or choose a wholesale of confetti online or one nearby to take advantage of better and more contained prices compared to a small store.
